Fluoronar Provides Long-Term Color, Gloss Retention For Architecturally-Exposed Metals

(KANSAS CITY, Mo., August 22, 2006) – Fluoronar, a premium topcoat from Tnemec Company, Inc., offers unequalled aesthetic performance, according to Chase Bean, vice president of sales.

An air-dried fluoropolymer, Fluoronar can be used for exterior applications to new construction, steel and aluminum, such as architectural detailing, metal curtain walls, structural steel, space frames, metal canopies, interior accents, decorative metal and window and door frames.

“Ideal for new construction and rehabilitation projects, Fluoronar provides better color and gloss retention than even the best polyurethanes,” Bean said. In fact, testing indicates that Fluoronar shows almost no color or gloss change after 8,000 hours of accelerated UV exposure, while conventional urethane holds color relatively well but loses gloss after 4,000 hours.

According to Bean, Fluoronar is excellent for high-profile architectural projects. The Excalibur Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev., chose to protect its turrets with Fluoronar because of the product’s long-term protection and exceptional color and gloss performance. Previous to being coated with Fluoronar, the turrets required repainting every two years with a conventional polyurethane coating due to the intensity of the desert sun.

Because of its ultra-durable finish, Fluoronar maintains its great looks for many years. A high solids-by-volume content provides better square-foot coverage per gallon. In addition, a stable-inert resin allows structures to go 15-plus years without repainting, making it excellent for areas where maintenance painting is prohibitive, thus saving time and money.

When renovating the exterior of the Verizon Headquarter’s Building in New York, N.Y., the architect selected Fluoronar as the premier finish of choice for its durability and long-term performance. Because the renovated sections are located 30 stories high, repainting them every few years would prove to be costly, Bean said.

Fluoronar is available in a multitude of colors, including metallics, as well as a variety of finishes: high-gloss (Series 1070); semi-gloss (Series 1071); satin (Series 1072); clear (Series 1076); and metallic (Series 1078).

The chemical structure of Fluoronar allows it to resist chalking, fading and weathering, preserving the aesthetics of the coating application. User-friendly, Fluoronar can be applied by brush, roller or spray. Additionally, Fluoronar can be applied over aged coil coatings when used in conjunction with the proper surface preparation and primer.

Fluoronar has been used on many high-profile projects nationwide including the George Fuller Building, New York, N.Y.; the Ernest Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, La.; the National Center for the Blind, Baltimore, Md.; Everett Transit, Everett, Wash.; and the ISU Indoor Training Facility, Ames, Iowa.
